Retiring Free Portals Support for Development Kits

For much of the last decade, Exosite provided a free, hosted instance of our Portals application to a number of silicon and development kit partners - including Texas Instruments, Microchip, Atmel, and Renesas - so that engineers evaluating a new chip or module could get an IoT proof of concept running in minutes. Portals ran on top of our original IoT platform, One Platform, and gave anyone with one of these kits a ready-made dashboard for visualizing sensor data and testing connectivity out of the box.

Some of these community sites had been running continuously for more than eight years, which is a long lifespan for a free evaluation tool. As of 2020, Exosite no longer supports these free Portals community sites.

What this means: if you have an older development kit that pointed to one of these Exosite-hosted Portals instances, that free connection is no longer available. This does not affect any customer running a licensed, production ExoSense or Murano deployment - it only affects the free out-of-box demo experience that shipped with certain development kits.

Why we made this change: our product focus has shifted entirely to ExoSense, our condition monitoring and predictive maintenance application, and the Murano platform underneath it. Maintaining free, unmonitored community infrastructure tied to a discontinued legacy platform was no longer a good use of the resources we’d rather put into the current product.

If you’re evaluating a connected device today and want to see it reporting into Exosite’s platform, our documentation site has current tutorials and reference material for connecting embedded devices, provisioning them, and getting data flowing - a good starting point if you’re building a new proof of concept rather than relying on a kit’s old default configuration.
