There is a place for repetitive work when you are honing a skill, learning something new, or cultivating an experimental idea. When you have a business with multiple divisions driving toward similar goals, not so much. Exosite has done the repetitive work of IoT, and we’ve cultivated it into our latest product, Exchange: a curated library of reusable IoT elements.

We’ve come a long way over the last few months in establishing a clear enterprise IoT framework for industrial OEMs creating an IoT strategy for their organization. With these best practices you can move forward understanding the importance of collaboration, creativity, and open communication between divisions.

When it comes to creating a connected product, some companies get caught up in the excitement of new development and forget to ask one simple question. Do customers really want it? This week in the enterprise IoT framework series, we’ll dive into that question and discuss ways to improve the relationship to your market.

In order to make the most of a connected product, you need to be able to differentiate that product from the crowd. To do that, there needs to be calculated measures taken when developing your IoT strategy. This week in the IoT framework series, we’ll be investigating how to come out on top of the pack, no matter what industry you’re focusing on.

In order to win a bike race, you must have two wheels that can support your growth and potential. If you’re going to spend major money on a cycle worthy of a winner, why wouldn’t you dole out cash on one that will get you through the challenges to come?

January 10, 2017

No one wants to reinvent the wheel if they don’t have to, so why should your organization do so when implementing an IoT ecosystem? This week in the IoT framework blog series, we’ll discuss establishing centralized common components in order to save you (and other divisions) time and money.

In order to establish a lasting enterprise IoT framework, you need to see issues before they arise. Last week we covered how limited internal scope can ruin opportunities for true innovation, but there are easy steps to take when creating a connected product and overcoming the learning curves associated with IoT implementation. With our enterprise IoT platform that assists large corporations in gaining alignment and initiating IoT projects, we can help you navigate the sea of issues.

Aligning your organization internally and encouraging cross-functional collaboration are only part of the battle while establishing an IoT framework for a multi-divisional company. Since we are an enterprise IoT-platform provider and work with large corporations like Parker Hannifin, we have the experience to highlight some of the common issues that organizations face when adapting to this new breed of technology. For the next two weeks, we will be covering one of the big issues many companies face: limited internal scope.

“Think of us as the invisible force identifying potential points of failure.”

Exosite’s QA team identifies potential points of failure in the process and the product while supporting Exosite projects by focusing on the total quality—from making sure team members have what they need to be successful, to asking if we remembered to add logging to the user management module, to iterative product testing, and then of course everything in between.

Background
In the beginning, quality was thought to be achieved by inspection of the final product. This idea controlled business for years, until Dr. W. Edwards Deming emerged on the quality scene with a remarkable idea—”continual improvement and working together with the aim for everybody to win.” Dr Deming laid out his Fourteen Points for the Transformation of Management and the Seven Deadly Diseases (of management) and with his understanding of statistical measures and human nature, he transformed Japanese industry after WWII with such measurable results that the entire world took notice. It wasn’t until NBC aired the documentary If Japan Can, Why Can’t We? on June 24, 1980 that Deming gained attention in America for the significant contribution to Japan's amazing business success. It was the turning point for the American quality movement.

Fast forward to 2016, the Exosite QA team is continuing Deming's quality philosophies by continuously improving the quality of Exosite's products and services. The QA team is creating new automated test frameworks and testing services to enhance Exosite's products and your IoT solutions running on our Murano platform. Together we can help ensure you get the highest quality and best value for your IoT solution, that is designed, built, and tested right the first time.

Keep an eye out for more information about Exosite's Quality offerings in future blog posts.

For your long-term IoT strategy to be effective, you need to have your departments synchronized and working towards creating a cohesive whole, much like collaborations between musicians. There are some helpful tools and guidelines that can be used in order to be successful and, as an industrial IoT platform provider, we understand how effective they can be to laying the groundwork.

December 7, 2016

Many successful bands or musical organizations rely on members working together well and harmonizing with their instruments. It is a similar concept when effectively implementing a company-wide IoT ecosystem in that people may specialize in different areas, but coordinating strategies together makes the system work well.

November 29, 2016

In order to build a company-wide IoT strategy, you want to create a process that plays into your company's strengths and functions as whole. In the creation stages, you want to make sure that every division is participating in the ways that they know best.

November 22, 2016

Devising a long-term enterprise IoT strategy is essential to implementing a successful IoT framework that spans across divisions, but how do you get divisions thinking about how IoT can be used within their area of expertise? Identifying how your entire organization can enter the IoT generation of business and inspiring different departments to join the bandwagon can be a lot of work. As an industrial IoT platform provider we are here to help you every step of the way.
