When it comes to IoT and Condition Monitoring, the focus is streaming sensor, event, and status data. But there's something important that often gets overlooked: the ability to store and track information about your equipment and assets. It may not sound glamorous, but it's incredibly valuable for improving digital management of your equipment, sharing helpful notes with others, and even quickly printing or exporting the view you're currently in to share as a report or to send to a teammate.

In this blog post, we're going to highlight some product features and tips that may not be the flashiest, but will definitely add a ton of value to your condition monitoring application. They'll help you digitize your connected equipment management and make your life a whole lot easier. So let's dive in!

We've recently released some key new features to ExoSense that will help asset managers.  When using Industrial IoT condition monitoring, a lot of focus goes into the real-time monitoring, rules, and taking action based on this streaming signal data.  What can be overlooked are the details around these assets that help provide context, to track things down, and to improve workflows.  We are excited to release Asset Subsystems and Asset Metadata.

Wouldn't it be powerful to move your device application and processing to the device's 'cloud instance'?  Now you can.  We released our script application interface several months ago with selected customers and we've now made it available publicly to all accounts.

ExoSense™ is a ready-to-deploy condition monitoring application that provides operational insight into high-value assets, systems, and equipment. It transforms the way industrial manufacturers, system integrators, and distributors bring connected products to market by making IoT more accessible from a technology perspective and more affordable from a financial perspective. We’ve documented how ExoSense will do that on our website, but it’s also useful to understand why we created this solution in the first place.

We have worked hand-in-hand with over 200 companies over the last eight years to help them deploy connected products that use the Internet of Things to create economic leverage. While some of our customers just want the fastest path to deploying an IoT feature set for a given product, most of them want BOTH reduced time to market AND to reuse the technologies and lessons-learned on subsequent efforts. This latter class of organization is one of the 69% of companies who see the Internet of Things as having a high or critical impact to their future (via Smart Industry).

We've announced Exchange, a curated library of reusable IoT elements, including industry-proven services, products and content, that enable industrial manufacturers to rapidly solve common IoT challenges. Exchange helps organizations implement a centralized approach to IoT development that focuses on standardization, reuse and collaboration to reduce costs and avoid duplicated efforts. With Exchange, organizations can expect to slash development costs by 50 percent and accelerate time-to-market by 30 percent, making the economics of IoT much more feasible.

A major challenge for designing and developing connected product solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) is the number and variety of complex technologies that must be integrated, along with the specific set of skills required to integrate all of the components. Just looking at the software skills alone requires a range of IT, web technologies, and embedded development that are rarely found internally at a company, let alone a single developer. Considering this, companies often seek ways to outsource the development of specific components of the system (e.g., sensors, devices, gateways, networks severs, user interfaces, business system integration) to external design firms and contractors, and search for off-the-shelf components that work with little customization.

With the recent explosion of the IoT industry, businesses are seeking to not only identify their IoT strategy, but also manage the business implications that accompany it.
