No one wants to reinvent the wheel if they don’t have to, so why should your organization do so when implementing an IoT ecosystem? This week in the IoT framework blog series, we’ll discuss establishing centralized common components in order to save you (and other divisions) time and money.

January 5, 2017

In order to establish a lasting enterprise IoT framework, you need to see issues before they arise. Last week we covered how limited internal scope can ruin opportunities for true innovation, but there are easy steps to take when creating a connected product and overcoming the learning curves associated with IoT implementation. With our enterprise IoT platform that assists large corporations in gaining alignment and initiating IoT projects, we can help you navigate the sea of issues.

January 4, 2017

Jan. 4, 2017 – Exosite’s IoT Alliance (EIA) partner program was mentioned in ITBusiness.ca’s coverage on the thriving momentum of the Internet of Things. The number of connected devices is expected to triple over the next five years, but with that growth will come renewed focus on security and adoption challenges.

Aligning your organization internally and encouraging cross-functional collaboration are only part of the battle while establishing an IoT framework for a multi-divisional company. Since we are an enterprise IoT-platform provider and work with large corporations like Parker Hannifin, we have the experience to highlight some of the common issues that organizations face when adapting to this new breed of technology. For the next two weeks, we will be covering one of the big issues many companies face: limited internal scope.

“Think of us as the invisible force identifying potential points of failure.”

Exosite’s QA team identifies potential points of failure in the process and the product while supporting Exosite projects by focusing on the total quality—from making sure team members have what they need to be successful, to asking if we remembered to add logging to the user management module, to iterative product testing, and then of course everything in between.

Background
In the beginning, quality was thought to be achieved by inspection of the final product. This idea controlled business for years, until Dr. W. Edwards Deming emerged on the quality scene with a remarkable idea—”continual improvement and working together with the aim for everybody to win.” Dr Deming laid out his Fourteen Points for the Transformation of Management and the Seven Deadly Diseases (of management) and with his understanding of statistical measures and human nature, he transformed Japanese industry after WWII with such measurable results that the entire world took notice. It wasn’t until NBC aired the documentary If Japan Can, Why Can’t We? on June 24, 1980 that Deming gained attention in America for the significant contribution to Japan's amazing business success. It was the turning point for the American quality movement.

Fast forward to 2016, the Exosite QA team is continuing Deming's quality philosophies by continuously improving the quality of Exosite's products and services. The QA team is creating new automated test frameworks and testing services to enhance Exosite's products and your IoT solutions running on our Murano platform. Together we can help ensure you get the highest quality and best value for your IoT solution, that is designed, built, and tested right the first time.

Keep an eye out for more information about Exosite's Quality offerings in future blog posts.

For more information on the work of Dr. W. Edwards Deming, check out the Deming Institute.
