Edwards Deming emerged on the quality scene with a remarkable idea—”continual improvement and working together with the aim for everybody to win.” Dr Deming laid out his Fourteen Points for the Transformation of Management and the Seven Deadly Diseases (of management) and with his understanding of statistical measures and human nature, he transformed Japanese industry after WWII with such measurable results that the entire world took notice. It wasn’t until NBC aired the documentary If Japan Can, Why Can’t We? on June 24, 1980 that Deming gained attention in America for the significant contribution to Japan's amazing business success. It was the turning point for the American quality movement.
